I haven't heard Haselbock yet, but I agree - the early symphonies sound best (to my ears) with an HIP approach, which is why I'm partial to Emanuel Krivine - smallish orchestra, small venue, rather close recording perspective, with proper balance between strings and winds/brass. Too many "big band" recording submerge the winds in a haze of strings.
