Photo of DDS and Yevgeny Yevtushenko (with Irina Shostakovich behind) just after the premiere on Dec. 18th. There would have been a lot of nervous relief...likely more nervous than relief. Another performance (with the same authority-non-approved texts, by God!) was given two nights later and was the one recorded for release. Palpable tension in the hall is felt.
