Earlier today, I was accompanying a high-school violinist who told us a story about his father, a violinist in the SF Opera Orchestra. The father has also taught violin at one of the Cal State University campuses, where some of his students are pretty far along and quite accomplished. He gave an assignment for a new piece (I don't know what it was, but it must have been somewhat obscure) to one of these students, and, at the following week's lesson, he asked her how she was doing on it (expecting her to play at least part of it for the lesson). The student replied that she had not learned the piece at all, and in fact had not even begun work on it. "Why?", he asked. She replied, "I couldn't find it on YouTube."

True story!
