It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

RE: The Deformed Sonata Form

As rbolaw mentions, if you really want to understand sonata form, then Charles Rosen's The Classical Style is the book to read. It is one of the best books ever written on the subject. It does assume some knowledge of music theory, however. I really hope this does not prove too daunting for some of you - I always very strongly encourage music lovers to learn as much as they can about music. It will only GREATLY increase your enjoyment when you listen to it! If you put a little work in, it will result in enjoyment beyond your conception at the moment, I promise you. There are many good online courses, and also "programmed" courses you can buy, such as those by Paul Harder. The Great Courses series also has good ones on music.
