But Solomon was a lot older than 42 when he had his stroke. If all we had of Solomon or Serkin or Arrau or Kempff was what they did before they were 42, we would not regard them as the titans that we rightly think them to be today. Also, there are not that many recodings of under 42 year olds that are still in the catalog 30 years after their deaths. Katchen is certaily a pianist worth listening to, especially in Brahms.
