Perhaps we could infer from what Heymann says that if there is a sameness in performances these days, it is because the critics would pan anywone who showed the kind of individuality of Mengelberg or Furtwangler. Perhaps ther performers are just giving the critics and perhaps the public what it wants. But actually there are a number of very individualistic soloist these days. What about Andrew Rangel, Salena-Sonnenberg, or that French young woman who loves wolves.
