I'm not sure about jazz and blues late, but most modern jazz I heard, like James Carter who was recommended to me being the New Coltrane, has all the technical skills, but I don't hear that tear in the sax Trane had. And for blues, well, perhaps we've got to wait for some blues coming from the developing countries, because I don't think there's that much pain and loss in the western world where one can write heartwrenching songs about. It's like cat and mouse at the end of a chess game, a repetition of what has been done before. If that is what you mean, then perhaps it's a thing infecting all music.
