Instrumental
Sub Piano, violin, organ etc with items listed alphabetically for composer within these.e.g. I-V-Be1 is item Instrumentral, Violin, Beethoven 1
Chamber
Baroque & Early
Concertos
Orchestral
Choral & Song
Opera
Jazz
etcUnder nearly all of these it is necessary to have a "miscellaneous" for the hard to categorise mixtures.
They are shelved in exactly the same order in which they are catalogued. Plastic coated carboard markers are used to show where an item has been removed so it can be replaced in the same place.
A similar system is used for our laserdiscs and our few CDs although neither of these have been carded. I started on computer entry of laserdisks into the computer with the Primasoft program (very good & could be used for any type of music cataloging) but entries are very much behind at the moment.
I religiously catalogued all our LPs on cards in this manner & could usually find any request. I've dreamed about putting it all into the PrimaSoft program but the size of this task and its boring nature deters me!!
Hope this is helpful
Peace at Aa
