That said, many woman pianists CHOOSE to play either with a "lighter touch" or a more "poetic" or "intellectual" bent. Prokofiev, Liszt or Brahms are (I believe) less often recorded by woman than composers such as Chopin, Debussy or Mozart (in particular).
All of the above apply to the PIANO. Now, in terms of VIOLIN, I submit the following artists: Salerno-Sonnenberg, Sarah Chang, Lydia Mordkovich...These woman can RIP! In my opinion, it's a dead heat in terms of both capabilities and attitude for this instrument.
