As one achieves a high degree of satisfaction with their gear or accepts the fact that there's no finality to the search for audio perfection, music usually becomes the central focus of one's passion. Otherwise, the goal of musical enjoyment becomes a "McGuffin" in a never-ending parade of components, speakers, and tweaks. [Note: In this instance, the search IS the purpose rather than the means.]In my case, I'm over halfway to my goal of audio satisfaction through the gear I've evaluated and puchased; after I achieve that goal, new gear will hold much less interest for me than the music I play on my system. That doesn't mean I'll ignore technology altogether, but my goals will shift to building a broader collection of music to play on the wonderful gear I've accumulated (i.e. critical listening will no longer mean gear evaluation).
I think most AA parons feel this way. On the other hand, some may have lost their way along the way.
