Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

I actually think there's a need to get anal about "sound" - for a while. But does it take 20 years to do it? What I don't understand is how anyone can make it a total lifestyle; the search for the perfect "sound" reminds me of the days of the search for the perfect 'bud'. It's not about music at that point, it's about ear-candy and 'sound' and the music gets lost in it. Music isn't written by artists thinking about soundstage and image and the art is lost on a mind set ONLY on those things. There have been some examples of people who balance the two extremes pretty well (Phil S. come to mind) and I think most of us here have an interest in good 'sound' but the people who hang almost exclusively at the Lane seem to accept the fact that recorded music will never be live or even a perfect reproduction of a live performance, so why bother trying to find it? Opening yourself up to the art in the music allows you to see right past the faults of the recording and into the mind of the artist. It doesn't get any more 'live' or accurate at that point because you've synched with the soul of the work and not just the superficial 'sound' of it.

Take your clothes off and sit a spell:-)
