You are right. The sound is more important than the music to most audio hobbiests. Most actual musicians own crappy low-fi gear, as the extreme example (I've read many times). It's an anal retentive, obsessive, perfectionist affliction. FWIW, after I get the decision that some piece of hardware (most recently phono stage) is not up to snuff, virtually no music is enjoyable until I drop the cash and get the next increment of performance.Nowadays, the gear heads don't even have time to mess with the gear (lots of cold tubes out there), they are too busy musing and arguing about their gear on the GODDAMNED INTERNET.
