A Joni fan from the very beginning, I nonetheless find some of her releases awful (re: Taming the Tiger). "Furry Sings the Blues", the last ditty on Court and Spark, even the lower-register closing on "Big Yellow Taxi" -- those types of things drive me nuts. Too cutsey. When Joni stays true to her songwriting abilities, I think she can successfully pull off the jazz idiom, as in "Last Chance Lost" on Turbulent Indigo. From the lukewarm reviews given hereunder, I'll have to wait until Borders puts the new album on headphones.
