Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

I have received TWO new sets of speakers in the last two months so I had the same conundrum. I mostly listened to things I liked and it varied from Karajan's 2001 (oops I mean Also Sprach Zarathustra) to Beethoven 9th Ode to Joy, to Emerson Lake and Palmer and Tannhauser.

Now, I would do it differently. I would put on Diana Krall for center balance of her voice in the middle; Mozart piano concertos for high frequency balance; Riahnnon by Fleetwood Mac also for high frequencies and Verdi Requiem for tympani to kick your butt across the room for fun. Then the opening chorus of Bach's St. Matthew Passion for ecstasy meltdown.

The point about high frequencies is that I have Maggies and you have a choice of copper wire, steel plugs and resistors to get the tweeter attenuation set for the room. Sounds like a tweak but actually it is just a matter of metallic resistance to the tweeter sections. It is very obvious when you have it right with the above recordings. It changes after about a month of speaker "burn-in" so I monitor it occasionally because there are females that are constantly changing the acoustic environment (furniture, wall hangings).
