Re: What people's music loving got to do with society?

I think music can serve making a better society, because music is able to communicate every emotion from the dark negative depressed ones to the great joyeus and gloriously happy ones and both emotions can make you experience a spiritual transformation, making you in love with everything in the world for a while, make you religious for a while, give you comfort after a great loss and all those things which constitutes us as human beings can find their spiritual counterpart in music and ways to project this on the 'outerworld'

When football hooligans want to start demolishing a stadium, as will be happening with Euro 2000 in a couple of months here in the Netherlands, they will start listening to aggressive music with more than 100 BPM, which makes their hearts beat faster, gives an adrenaline boost and coupled with some XTC and huge amounts of beer the hell will be a footballgame. When they would play some nice pianomusic or calm jazz in stadiums instead of aggressive music, these kind of things like riots wouldn't happen, because the hooligans would focus on the music, being bored by the music or closing their minds and ears feeling attacked in their masculanity, while a music-lover would start focussing on the music as well, like football can be a ballet. Christ, I'm sorry but I went to sleep still wearing my dancing pumps after this passionate day with Tchaikovsky, but anyway, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

Music is an sich no mean to reach a goal, but it could certainly serve as one and I'm glad real music isn't competitive, since only society is competitive, music only describes this when you're open to listen to philosophically oriented music which is based on a harmony-model instead of a conflict-model, more Weberian than Marxian so to speak or just more l'art pour l'art than trying to convey a message as for instance is happening in rap and other sorts of music who are benefited by spreading hate and amorality, which is another thing as immorality.

Van Beethoven was a tempered man, but like he composed: 'Alle Menschen werden Bruder' and it took him is whole life to come up with this almost final message, having had the temper to fight anything which didn't fit into his moral and how people should behave to one another.
