Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

My opinion, as fairly drawn as possible.

Mike, inclusion isn't just a "pc" issue, IMHO. For one thing, most people that are rock enthusiasts aren't screaming "ROCK RULES" all the time (i.e. to adjudge all rock music fans in this manner is just another form of "profiling"). BTW, when someone says something like "We did build this place, after all.", it sounds elitist and disciminatory in the worst possible way. It leaves the impression, intended or not, that you want to build something to keep people out simply because they may think differently than you do, and that only a "long timer or a regular" is worthy of joining this exclusive club. [Note: It reminds me of political speeches proposing "we are the party of inclusion" when the actual meaning is "we don't want anything to do with your kind, but your support (i.e. $$$) will be gladly accepted."] Is this the message you want to convey?

FWIW, I'm a classic rock fan and I'm very proud of it. I like other kinds of music as well, but my predominant interest remains classic rock. The point is, if I want to share my interest in rock music with other similarly interested music patrons why should we be harassed for it? Rod and I have disagreed on issues before, but his concerns in this area are mine as well. BTW, even if he's satisfied by your explanation, I'm still troubled by it. For one thing, if you had only said "I think many others feel as I do" as opposed to the more presumptive " - and I think I speak for many here - " it would have seemed less like you're the leader of a mob ready to tar and feather rock patrons.

I probably shouldn't have jumped into the fray here, [Note: I can just see those chickens being plucked already and does anyone smell tar boilin'? :o)], but I hoped to appeal to your better self by offering a true rock fan's perspective. If you are really serious about "inclusion" you should stop treating rock people like second class citizens and encourage a broader spectrum of posts here. In this way, Music Lane will look less like an "old boy's club".

Respectfully,
AuPh
