Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Picking up on Dave the Boatman's "best of" post, what are the "WORST" live performances you've seen?

209.197.193.177

Here are some I can recall, but would rather forget:

Bad Company reunion tour (last year): Paul Rogers still has superb vocal skills, but Mick Ralph's would have sounded better on air-guitar! (Reunion Areana --- no pun intended --- Dallas)

Frank Marino (of Mahogany Rush) performing at the Bronco Bowl (1992, I think) in Dallas. He's a brilliant guitarist when performing Hendrix material as I'd witnessed once before at the Texas Jam in the late seventies. Unfortunately, he must have been going through his "white noise" period in the nineties, because three days of ringing ears is about all I can recall from this lackluster show.

Procol Harum/Jethro Tull, mid-nineties in the Starplex (Dallas). I guess an off night might have been responsible, but these guys looked tired and performed with about as much fervor as a sloth on qualudes. Although this concert was sleep inducing, I'll grant that both performances were worth the price of admission (i.e. it was a free promotional event!)

One of the great concert "legends of rock" scams: There was a package tour of several well known rock bands in the early eighties, but few original members of those bands were present. I was suckered in I'm embarassed to say. The venue was Lloyd Nolan Arena in Norman, Okla., where "Steppenwolf" (without John Kay or any other notables), "Iron Butterfly" (with only Ron Bushy, the original drummer, performing), and one or two other fake acts (i.e. with NO original members) hacked out or should I say butchered well known hits from their original counterparts. What a rip!!!

I'll probably think of others later and ammend this list.

Cheers,
AuPh
