A coupla-three weeks back we had a Royal Visit here in Aussie from 'mum'. This included a visit to our Australian War memorial, so I among many other volunteer guides togged-up to see how the wonderful old battle-axe was doing, and maybe even say gidday! They had to have a bugler to play the Last Post and the Rise. The soldier chosen was of course superb, expressively powerful, no cracked notes and fine intonation, very moving. So it ought to be possible to play a natural trumpet that well, too! ;-)
He came of course from the band of our Royal Military College, Duntroon, here in Canberra. It's also where my wife grew up, her Dad was one of the academics there from the late 40s on.
*In Australia it is possible to be a republican and a libbrul (sneer), and a values-driven conservative, all at once. ? me and lots of others!
While I admire and respect QEII, I am a republican, and want our own head of state, and a flag sans the Union Jack. Canada at least has such a flag.
