As you probably know, Ella recorded for Decca, Verve, Pablo, and for a
while for Capitol. The good stuff is on the first 3 labels. As a
major Ella fan, I do not care how good the mastering is, it's the music
that matters. That said, Classic Records released CD versions of
"Clap Hands Here Comes Charlie" and "Let No Man Write My Epitaph" which
are simply superb. There are also XRCD versions of the duets that she
did with Joe Pass, the first volume of which is exquisite.
Her other true masterpiece, the Cole Porter Songbook, has been issued
only by Verve/Universal and I find it very acceptable. There is also
available many vinyl releases of her recordings at ridiculous prices,
but I cannot speak to those because I haven't done vinyl for over 20
years.
There is also a gold cd version of her Verve recordings with Louis
Armstrong, but I don't know which label it's on. A search on Amazon
should yield appropriate info.
