When I was at conservatory the Barenboim was a party disc--so bad it was hilarious. The brasses, while typically Chicagoesque, reached fff within two minutes, whereupon the piece had nowhere to go.
Tough piece to bring off because it's so repetitive. Attention to detail--very fine detail--is required. Barenboim didn't have any.
