It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

What Amphissa and I are saying…

is that the speakers in an acoustical correction system don't have to reproduce the actual music. They simply have to reproduce a computed "correction sound" which contains content such as some out of phase info to cancel room modes, and/or a little delayed sound to increase reverb time. The direct sound of the musicians is not reproduced by the speakers or touched by amplification.

The correction factors are determined by tests in the hall at a time other than the concert and relate to its acoustic properties. The microphones pick up the live sound at various points in the hall and feed it to the system for calculation and creation of the "correction sound" which, in a complex system, may actually be different for different locations.

Yes, you do need amplifiers to drive the speakers, but the amplifiers don't have to amplify the music. They can just be needed to drive the speakers so the speakers can deliver the sound required to correct the acoustic response.

And yes, it's also possible to deliver this sort of correction and also have the speakers amplify the live sound as well, but that isn't necessary. Whether or not the live sound gets reinforced by the speaker system or not is an option for the hall, and can even be left as a system option so performers can choose whether they want the sound of their performance delivered that way. In a large hall, an orchestra may choose to go without reinforcement while a solo singer with a single accompanist may choose reinforcement. It's up to the way the system is designed and implemented.

But, at least in theory, there's no need for the speakers in an acoustical correction system to reproduce the actual music. As I said, I looked at the MeyerSound site and couldn't find a clear description which indicated whether or not their system also reproduced the music, whether it didn't, or whether that could be an optional "feature".
