Now it's gotten to the point that anybody who wins some local competition gets a recording deal -- if they are pretty enough. No wonder classical music as a genre is in such a shambles. Audiences/customers are confronted with hundreds of new artists per year, all of whom are promoted as if they were not only the best ever musician, but also the sexiest.
Please tell me why the marketing departments of these record labels always show women swooning and day dreaming, with a vapid expression on their faces. It's really quite perplexing to me, as it actually communicates a message that is the antithesis of musical competence.
