It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Update on accoustically enhanced concert halls

Note the linked PDFs, which describes the sound system that was installed in Berkeley's Zellerbach Hall. It is the Constellation System from Meyer Sound Laboratories.

Zellerbach installation

Constellation Acoustic System

Since the system was installed in 2006, and has been in use constantly since then, I suspect they felt no need to advise the audience of it for the VPO concert.

The system is apparently installed in quite a number of halls. But their claim (apparently well founded) is that you never even know it is active, because it integrates so subtly with the natural acoustics.

Between Chris and another person I know who attended that concert, both of whom are experienced performing musicians with years of discerning listening as well, neither perceived anything unnatural about the sound.

As this approach to creating a good concert acoustic is FAR cheaper than building new concert halls, I rather suspect that we will see more of this in the future.
