Giantsteps - The Rhino remaster from 1998

70.137.112.3

Has anyone compared Rhino's 1998 redbook remaster of John Coltrane's Giant Steps to the Mobile Fidelity gold disc from around 1994? I thought the Rhino version sounded Ok, until I bought a used version of the MFSL disk and compared them one after the other. It was not difficult to tell them apart, the Rhino version was so bright and thin it was bordering on shrill in comparison. I don't think I can listen to it any more. The MFSL doesn’t seem to lack anything in the resolution dept, but yet has a full fleshed out analog thing going on compared to the Rhino version. The Bass and drum sound on the MSFL was in a different league altogether. After this it is very easy to understand why the MFSL redbook discs go for such high prices on the used market.
