Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

wowohwowohwow!

I literally found myself saying that out loud, to no one but myself after listening to the first (I bought the set early as soon as it came out, following the London rave reviews a year earlier). Then proceeded through the box....and found every since interpretation at least very fine...and the first and sixth better than any I have ever heard.

Haitink takes everything at a pretty fast tempo...even when the timings don't turn out to be particularly fast, his sense of continuity, propulsiveness, and nuance make them seem like they are floating on a cushion of air. His dances dance, and his climaxes climax, all without losing touch with each other.

As has been mentioned elsewhere, the dynamics and the use of the tympany is outstanding. The sound in multichannel SACD is the best orchestral sound I have yet heard...with my eyes closed on my system it is very similar to what I hear when listening in a good concert hall. The sound is fairly close up...about a Row E perspective...but extremely clean and natural sounding.

I bought the complete set on CD Universe for about $67 bucks and I consider it the best musical value I have purchased in over a decade.
You should have this set, even if you prefer others. And if you have a multichannel SACD setup, you MUST have this set.
