The most arresting Atmospheres (and Lontano) is with Abbado on DG. It's out of print but may be found used at Amazon. The concentration is amazing.The Bartok 2 is an obsession of mine. My favorite is Kocsis and Fischer on Philips. Very jaunty and personable woodwinds in first mov't, the most mysterious 2nd mov't out there, (Bartok's night music), and the only recording that gets the bass drum right in the last mov't. Yes the bass drum has a big part, lol. It's punchy but weighty and absolutely in sync with the piano. I hope this concerto becomes an addiction for you.
