"Universal Grammar" (our ability to learn understand & create speach) and that languages consist of an infinite number of expressions constructed from a few dozen finite *sounds*.Then there was a music theorician called Heinrich Schenker who went on to say that we also have a "universal MUSIC grammar".
Hence there was talk that musical composition is intrinsically linked to language and vice-versa.
I remember reading that s/one wrote a book based on these theories...
