I really don't know what YOUR next Tavener selection should be :-) but the only Tavener I have is "Tears of the Angels" with Patricia Rozario soprano and the BT Scottish Ensemble on Linn Records (as in "Linn Sondek" for the vinyl junkies).

It contains 3 works:

"...Depart in Peace" for soprano, violin, tampura and strings,
"My Gaze is Ever Upon You" for solo violin and tape, and
"Tears of the Angels" for solo violin and string ensemble.

It's not the usual Tavener since over half of it is purely instrumental and the vocal work is for a solo singer rather than choral. The soprano, Patricia Rozario, is Indian, there is a tampura part, and distinct Indian influences as well as the Greek Orthodox orientation.

The recording is very good (what would you expect from Linn?), the CD is HDCD and carries the statement "This CD sounds even better through a Linn CD player". Well, what would you expect Linn to claim?

Enough of the Linn bashing :-) It's a good disk and I quite enjoy it, but it does seem a little different from the other Tavener I've heard on disc and live. I'm not sure from your post whether I'd recommend it over one of Tavener's more usual choral discs.
