I was in the CD store the other day and picked up the new album by the Bulgarian All Star Orchestra. I don't know what possessed me. I hope it doesn't happen again. If SOMEBODY would have made an effort to stay on key, it probably would have been better. (Did you know that it is actually possible to make a clarinet sound like bagpipes???) Anyhow, it's got a very cheerful album cover, so it has that going for it.I also picked up a set of 4 Rachmaninov PCs (Ashkenazy/Haitink) and the 1st symphony/Isle of the Dead (Jansons), which I'm deep into at the moment, occasionally pounding on the keyboard.
Thanks for the rec on artie and the sonatas. I'll look for it, but will no doubt pick up something that's not quite that.
