Whether you are a fan or not, treat yourself to her new cd. It's called A Gogo. It is a set of live recordings from various venues. Her guitar seems to have been miked very closely. The sound is warm and intimate. I never saw her in a small club (only a large outdoor stage), but if this is what it's like, gas up the van, I'm takin' a road trip!
Are there singers with a better voice? I am sure you could name several. Are there better guitar players? A few maybe.
Are there any who could combine guitar, voice, and songwriting like this? Damn few!
This is just Patty and her guitar. No band, no frills or tricks in the recording. Put the cd on, get a hot cup of tea (or beverage of your choice), turn the lights down low, put the Lazy-Boy in the recline position, hit "Play" and enjoy! Banish Misfortune/Open Hand is a real treat.
Trust me, would I steer you wrong ;-)
