I am completely white, but serge is right, nobody has sung REAL JAZZ like black women such as Fitzgerald, Vaugn, and others. What legacy do white "jazz" singers have? Merrill, Ross, O'Day, Jordan, Dearie, Krall... While they have accomplished a lot, they just do not compare to Fitzgerald and Vaughn. There is a great difference between these white singers and these black singers, and the difference is that Fitzgerald and Vaughn sing from their heart and with their souls, and they, not to mention a myriad of other singers such as Holiday, McRae, and the like, are what true vocal jazz is about.
