Wasn't it you that said BVSC sounded like Hawaiian music? Hove you seen the movie? If you do, you will realize that it is 95% Cuban and 5% Ry Cooder. Because cCooder is a musician who plays guitar and slide guitar, he played with the band that he put together.It was probably the slide guitar that threw you off (although I consider slack key guitar closer to real Hawaiian music than slide).
Remember that the BVSC folks are playing old music. Try "Introducing Reuban Gonzalez if you want purer Cuban (Son, Danzon, Cha-Cha, etc.) music from the 1950's. Modern Cuban music is a completely differend animal.
