Even my first turntable (new Kenwood delivered for $80!!) was enough to show that vinyl was better than cd's. But, for the most part, that is the case when the recording was analog in the first place. As much of the music I have is from before 1990, just about all of it is analog, and therefore sounds better played back on an analog playback source. All the cd versions of those analog recordings just sound dull, lifeless, etc. Something(s) just get lost in the conversion - from analog to digital. I do have few new recordings (last few years) on both vinyl and cd and really can't tell them apart. I don't know if they are digital recordings though. I tend to play the vinyl versions as it's my favorite format, though just about every DDD cd I have sounds great. My real problem is that there is more vinyl out there (new & used) than I have money for!!
