Mr. D,Do you think you could draw up any generalities for when a CD sounds better than an LP *when it's of the same performance*? For example, do CDs only win out over their digitally recorded LP counterparts; is it the remastering that makes you prefer CD; or is it merely the lack of surface noise that grabs you? I'm just starting to rebuild an LP collection after hearing how palpable and three-dimensional vinyl sounds in comparison to CD--for me, it's more of a sonic texture thing than a question of recording technology, and besides I seem to find myself playing CDs (classical and jazz) recorded in the 60s far more than those from any other era.
