Home Jazz Alley

From Louis Armstrong to Charlie Parker to the new greats of today, this is the place for Jazz!

Wow, My reaction is very different.

I bought it on cd's. I agree that the sound leaves plenty to be desired but I sure like Sonny's playing. It reminds me of where he was at when he recorded the East Broadway Rundown album, which is one of my fave Sonny periods.

Considering the breadth of Rollins' recording output we sure have a lot to choose from and obviously some who dig Sonny will prefer other recordings and/or different periods of Sonny's playing. The sound/mix could certainly be better and no doubt some will prefer other drummers/bassists Sonny recorded with. But I'm definitely glad I bought this despite wishing it had better sound. IMO Sonny plays his ass off.

BTW - I was referring to the sound on the *live* recordings. The studio session is fine soundwise.
