so did i, Doc, the Mahler 9 and it was similiarly unforgettable; i acknowledged that there were exceptions. and yes, he made some marvelous recordings---i hereby acknowledge that i own more recordings by HvK than of any other conductor---but he also recorded some crap. after a certain point, anyone who makes that many recordings is recording for extramusical reasons. i'm not trying to trash Karajan, but he was what he was, and most of the time, especially after the 60's, what he was wasn't great.patrick S
