I found the hymn today at a local sheet music store and played it through, and listened carefully to the quartet again. (I don't have a score.) The Elegy is certainly "hymnlike" and there are short phrases that could be similar to many other things, but I didn't hear any themes extending over a few bars that I could recognize from that hymn. Likewise for the "Taps" pizzicato in the Funeral March, there are short phrases that could sound like the beginning of Taps, at least as I can recall it, but again nothing similar that extends over a couple of bars. Hey, but it's been fun and educational to study things this way.
