Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

Oh, the ignominy!

Excerpt from The Lost Works of Shakespeare (ed. E. Strobes)

---------------------------------------

If you prick us, do we not bleed?

What vile condescension is bestowed upon
The steadfast shoulders of the sons of St. George?
The jaded eyes of our enemies doth look upon
The noble house of Phil.,
and do shame our reputation whilst
proclaiming that foul proclivity doth lurk within!

Wherein said noble house, proud Previn once did
Swing his baton high upon the cultured air!
And merrily brought forth the greatest music
'er mortal man hath heard!

The works of Brittan, Elgar, Lamb and, more,
The sainted opera of England's proudest son:
Sir Dickie Wagner, held the crowds in awe
Who, when all was done, could only yell for more!

Yet, thou would deny the greatness of the Phil.?
And put it down as a refuge for mere plods,
Whose skill is lacking when compared at all,
Against the mighty Germans, Dutch and Yanks.

But knowest not what thou hast cast aside?
The finest band that e'er gave voice to Bach!
And made the very columns of St. Paul
tremble with each furious Tympani whack!

Oh, noble sons of England, bear your shame!
For simpering voices will not dim your fire
And hold aloft and proud the very name
Of London's Philharmonnic Band and Choir!
