Gramophone prefers Sir Simon Rattle to Sir Thomas Beecham in most symphonies and I also think the Birmingham are a lot better than the Royal Philharmonic, since they sound more German, but that's my bias. I still want to hear the Vanskas on Bis and that Sibelius 2 with the Concertgebouw under Szell Sir Big B recommended, although the Sanderlings looks attractive as well, but perhaps they're too Russian.....Rob
