Bummer this wasn't around 6 months ago, when I got EMI's 4 CD set of the Sibelius cycle with Rattle/CBSO (which I like, BTW). I was wondering if Sir John's set was sufficiently better / different from Sir Simon's to warrant the purchase of this set, seeing as how your description:"approach isn't "Nordic" (cold, bleak, slow) it's more "Elgarian" (majestic, noble) and filled with an emphasis of the inner details."
could be applied to Rattle's set, as well.
