I have read postings and other readings that claim that the players of today are generally superior in technique to players of earlier generations.So why aren't current recordings better (in terms of playing skill)? This begs the question of whether the great-dead conductors (like Ed, Furtie, Reiner etc) brought out the best in players back then and there is no equivalent inspiration today.
