IMO, 00, 0, and 1 are best avoided. If Bruckner himself thought 00, and 0 were worthwhile, he would have given them Real numbers (actually, he would have given them positive integers or cardinal numbers, since hardly anyone gives their symphonies real numbers like 3.14159, but enough for today's math lesson). Bruckner is also quoted as saying that he learned a lot from the mistakes in his 1st symphony, saying the finale began like a rude person barging into a room.

Bruckner's 2nd is a favorite of mine. The best recording I've found so far is Chailly/Concertgebouw on Decca. It's well-played and quite beautiful, but Chailly doesn't quite give it as much feeling as I'd like. Most of the 2nds I've seen are a part of the complete set, which is a shame.

For the 3rd, it depends on whether you want a classic performance of the butchered version or simply a very good performance of the full version. I'd opt for the latter, and the Naxos recording of the original version by Tintner. It is extremely well-played, and one of only 2 available recordings that plays what Bruckner wrote.

I'm still looking for a good 5th.
