Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

They recorded most Decca stuff in the 40-ies, from 1951 on the Concertgebouw and Eduard got back in Dutch hands: Philips with Jaap van Ginniken as engineer. Although his shellac Bruckner 7 on Decca is considered to be better than the one he did on LP for Philips, to me the most memorable recordings are on Philips/Fontana vinyl. The atmosphere of the hall and its acoustics are perfectly captured, while Decca puts stress on the bass, making them sound rather hollow, like is happening right now with Chailly's recordings. From 1965 on Haitink had a worse orchestra, but even the Philips vinyl, containing wacky brass and goats on trumpet sound better than those products of Decca with Chailly and Telefunken with Harnoncourt. Why improve a perfect hall?
