This performance is much more intense than Walter's Sony recording, but the sound is just awful
Everyone who knows Bruno Walter from the "Columbia Symphony" stereo recordings might be surprised to hear the Brahms, Beethoven, and Mahler recordings from earlier in his career. They are often FIERY. Sometimes the playing and sound (e.g., Mahler 9 and Das Lied with Vienna Phil) are subpar, but this is certainly not a problem with the NY Phil recordings from the 1950s.
