Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

Respighi - is that really classical?

or am I in the wrong forum again? I sort of like this stuff(Fountains of Rome, Pines of Rome), but this 1920's hodgepodge of alternatingly sucrosic and cascading violins, strident brass and abbreviated themes reminds me a little of when 1970's TV would get sappily dramatic or romantic. Still though, for me it is engaging and has enjoyable harmonies and interplay between instruments (considering that it's 20th century). If anything it tries too hard to tell its story in a literal manner. My main complaint is that in general it's dark and congested, like my thinking.

A product of its times, I suppose, but worth a listen.

(Ormandy, Philidelphia Orch)
