All of them living in that era were Nazis, but not convinced ones. They just had to survive. Furtwangler perhaps is the best example of opposing from within. He refused swastikas on stage and his wartime performances are filled with anger. Herbie already was a member of the NSDAP in 1933 and really used it to further his career, since only members got good orchestras. Another conductor who refused to perform for Nazis only was Hans Knappertsbusch. Over here in Nederland we had the problem Mengelberg, but he also needs absolution, since he made sure every jew in the Concertgebouworkest survived in Bergen-Belsen. It were hard times Ian, and everyone lost principles.
