Celibidache to me is the only valid apprentice of Furtie, also in regard to looking at a symphonic piece as a whole although he perhaps overdid later in his life, scorned about the way he was treated by 'that Coca-Cola conductor', pointing at Von Karajan. To me these two are the only ones who are able to get to the core of a German piece and both are rather awkward in their interpretations. Celibidache's Brahms is very nice too. Both hated making recordings and those Celibidaches on EMI show the genius, but doesn't make you hear the genius in all glory: 'A recording is like a photograph of making love'.Horenstein must be the most overrated conductor, especially in Mahler just like Sir John Barbirolli whose Mahler 5th is regarded to be the definitive recording, but it's not my Mahler, just like Klemperer's 2nd with the lame Philharmonia isn't my Mahler.
