Classical Court From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here. |

My most cherished recording, on nice Decca vinyl is 'Das Lied von der Erde' with Patzak and Ferrier. Although Mahler wanted it to be sung by two male voices, like 'Kindertotenlieder' should be sung by a baritone and 'Uhrlicht' by a warm alto, this warm alto Ferrier is unforgettable even though she also recorded 'Kindertotenlieder'.The Wieners are toppy top, ( show the thumb) and although Van Beinum's Lied is more beautiful and coherently played, the Angst is more apparent in Walter's recording, there's more drive in it and the emotional outbursts are pretty shocking. It's fiery played, so I can imagine his Beethoven is pretty nice too, but I really hate the Columbia and besides, I think I'm into the Furtwangler religion for Beethoven.
