That's another one. I listened to the 1st again a little while ago, and like every other time I listen to Brahms, I move him up another notch on my favorite composer list. My list has a logjam at the top, I have five composers duking it out for the top three spots.When you see a picture of Brahms, doesn't he look like a guy who would be standing on Market Street with a bottle of wine in a brown paper sack sticking out of the pocket of a filthy overcoat while he's holding a tattered Bible in a hand that's wearing a glove with the fingers cut off, and screaming at the tourists as they attempt to board a cable car, "Repent you goddamn sinners, repent"? He is one scary looking guy. You don't get that look unless you've faced your share of demons. Sometimes his music scares me too.
