The MGMC1 speaker stand discussion thus far:Please indicate if I have quoted you inaccurately.
You seem to believe that the only legitimate installation method for Magnepan MGMC1's is attached to a wall, using Magnepan's own wall-attached "swing out" mechanism.
I pointed out that Magnepan offers stands for the MGMC1's which obviate the need to attach the speakers to the walls if the user/listener is not so inclined.
You linked to and also quoted from the Magnepan site that they offer $30 speaker stand "kits" which one can use in helping to determine the best place on the walls to install the speakers. These kits are "temporary" and "disposable". I believe you indicated (or at least implied) that these "temporary/disposable" speaker stands are the ones I've been using with my own MGMC1's for years.
My speaker stands are made of metal and, according to the original assembly instructions for the stands which I still have (scan available on request), their stability on thick carpet can be improved by filling them with a dense material, such as shot, BB's, sand, etc.
In view of all this, I called Magnepan technical support this morning to ask about the nature of these stands - were they "temporary" and/or "disposable"? I talked to two separate people there - and BOTH of them confirmed that these stands are neither "temporary" or "disposable". When I asked if the temporary stands as described on the Magnepan web site are available, they were not familiar with any temporary stands, although one of them said the the temporary stands may have been available , many, many years ago. I did not question them as to why the words "temporary" and "disposable" were still showing up on the web site.
That is where things stand now. Your move.
